ARGUS is designed to work with the equipment you already have. In most stores nothing needs replacing.

Cameras

If your recorder can show it, ARGUS can usually analyse it. ARGUS doesn’t talk to your cameras directly. It reads the feeds from your recorder, so the camera brand rarely matters. Analogue cameras on a DVR work the same way as IP cameras on an NVR.

Recorders

Most DVRs and NVRs work, including the brands sold under retail and security-installer labels. What ARGUS needs is the ability to read camera feeds over your local network, a standard feature that’s usually on by default.
Recorders limit how many things can read from them at once. ARGUS is careful to reuse a single connection per camera rather than opening more, which matters on recorders with a low limit.
If your recorder turns out to be unusual, support will tell you during setup rather than leaving you to find out.

The computer that runs the agent

ARGUS needs one always-on computer in the store that can see your recorder on the local network. A back-office PC is typical. Rough guidance:
  • Windows, still receiving updates
  • 8 GB of memory
  • A wired network connection to the same network as the recorder, if possible
  • Left on: ARGUS only analyses while it’s running
No graphics card is needed. The heavy analysis runs on our side, not in the store.

What you don’t need

  • No new cameras in most cases
  • No port forwarding or firewall changes: the agent reaches us on its own
  • No fixed IP address from your internet provider
  • No separate recorder: ARGUS reads the one you have
